Victory in Moncton: Hoopers Dominate Tri City Tide and Eye April Action

The Halifax Hoopers are proving they’re not just new kids on the block—they’re contenders.

In a high-energy showdown on March 23, 2025, at Crandall University’s “The Court” in Moncton, the Hoopers toppled the Tri City Tide with a final score of 103–93, marking their fourth win in just six games during their debut season in The Basketball League.

From the opening tip-off, the Hoopers came to play. Antonio Davis was electric on both ends, sinking crucial shots and shutting down the Tide’s key scorers. Josiah Tynes, the pride of North Preston, delivered smooth perimeter shooting and brought fire to the court, while Brandon Beloti controlled the paint with confident finishes. Akeem Clarke’s improved post play led to several strong finishes and thunderous dunks, and Lansana Nwosu kept the pace relentless with his quick transitions and smart passes.

Head Coach and General Manager Augy Jones couldn’t be prouder. “What we’re doing here is bigger than basketball,” he said after the win. “We’re building something for the community—something that shows young people, especially African Nova Scotian kids, that this level is not only reachable, but it can be done right here at home. This team is locked in, and we’re only getting started.”

The Hoopers’ on-court chemistry is starting to gel like a seasoned squad, and fans are taking notice. The team has a solid 4-2 record and growing support across the province. Next up? A road matchup on April 11—but the real buzz is building around the franchise’s first-ever home game at the Zatzman Sportsplex in Dartmouth on April 18.

Tickets are going fast, and with momentum like this, it’s no surprise.
